The final leg down to the Canay Islands starts in Lissabon and takes us truly offshore out on the Atlantic. Our preferred route is from Lissabon directly towards the island of Madeira, and the crossing is usually warm and pleasant with following winds, as we now enter the trade wind area. We expect to see lots of dolfins on the way and maybe a whale or two. We might also visit Porto Santo on our way to Madeira. From Madeira we head south towards the Canary Islands, where we might make a stop in Lanzarote, time permitting, before heading to Gran Canaria and Las Palmas.
Depending on the weather, there is of course also an alternative route that would first take us down the Portuguese coast to Lagos and maybe even to Gibraltar, Rabat or Casablanca, before crossing over to the Canary Islands.
Whichever route we take, we will make at least two stops on the way.
