Atlantic crossing west to east
Martinique, being a part of Franc and EU, is very easy to get to with e.g. multiple flights from Paris every day. It is also the best place in the Lesser Antilles to provision for a sail across the Atlantic. Starting from Fort-de-France, we will most likely take the traditional course north, passing on the northern side of the Azores High and catching the “westerly trades” between the high and the lows of the north Atlantic. This would give us mostly westerly following winds, but as always, the weather for the return trip is very hard to predict, so it is likely that we’ll get quite varying conditions. We estimate the trip to the Azores to take less than three weeks and then we’ll spend a few days on Faial. Around May 17th, we set sails towards Lagos, Portugal, and we expect the trip to take around a week. Depending on the forecast, we might also visit one or two of the other islands in the Azores.
You are invited to join us as crew members, either for the full trip or parts thereof, taking responsibility for watchkeeping and assisting with sailing the yacht.
NB The dates and even the destinations are plans and subject to change due to weather and other unforseen events.
Meals before and after the crossing, as well as on the Azores, are not included.
